　　Air pollution comes from factories, power stations and cars. Chemicals in the smoke from power stations cause a lot of damage. They can travel hundreds of miles in the wind before falling to the ground in the rain. But this "chemical rain" gradually destroys trees in the forests and kills fish in the lakes. In Germany, over 50% of the country’s trees had been damaged by the year 1986.

　　Time and time again there are serious accidents that pollute the air. In 1986 there was a bad accident at a nuclear power station in Russia. A cloud of radiation crossed the whole of Europe. It is said that 125,000 people died in Russia as a result of illnesses caused by this accident.

　　In 1984 there was a serious accident at a factory in India and a cloud of dangerous gas covered the town of Bhopal. Over 2,500 people were killed that night, and hundreds of thousands of people were injured. Many of the injured lost their sight.

　　近日，欧洲空间局发射升空的地球环境监测卫星传回首批数据照片。科学家计划，不久将根据地球环境监测卫星传回的资料出版地球环境月度报告。

　　经过欧洲14国十多年的共同努力，欧洲巨型地球环境监测卫星“恩维萨特”于2002年3月1日被送入太空。

　　“恩维萨特”卫星被科学家戏称为巨型“环境间谍”，是以阿斯特利乌姆航天公司为首的欧洲50多家公司联合制造完成的，重量为8111公斤，展开宽度26米，卫星运行在距地面800公里的太阳同步轨道，每100分钟环绕地球一周，卫星携带的仪器对地球进行观测，周期为35天，使用寿命为5年，其造价、发射费用及5年运转费用为24亿欧元，是欧洲空间局生产的最大、最昂贵、最先进的地球环境观测卫星，也是目前世界上惟一一颗准实时向地面传送观测数据的观测卫星。

　　该环境监测卫星具有两大功能：一是普查地球资源；二是监测地球环境。欧洲空间局一支450人的科研队伍将根据卫星传回的资料评估人类活动对环境的影响，其中两大研究课题是臭氧层破坏和环境污染。该卫星的使用大大丰富了环境和气候变化的科学数据，能帮助科学家观测地球变暖、臭氧减少、海洋变化和冰层、植被消亡等现象，研究地表荒漠、火山爆发、洪水与厄尔尼诺等形成的原因，以及监控地球污染状况，并传回地球生态系统间相互作用的相关数据，找到地表污染源与污染原因。

　　德国政府发布的新闻公告表示，由于“恩维萨特”环境卫星配备先进的探测分析仪器，传回的数据将比目前所有同类卫星更精确，“达到其他卫星无法达到的质量”，因此它将有助于监督旨在控制全球变暖的《京都议定书》的执行情况。

　　对于人类来说，地球是个庞然大物，可是在茫茫宇宙之中，只不过象是汪洋大海之中的一艘航船，它的资源和空间都是有限的。随着人类改造自然的能力的增强，为了满足人们不断增加的消费需求，越来越多的资源被人类开发利用，许多资源已呈现出匮乏之势。地球已经在哭泣了。

　　我们先看已看水吧。我记得以前有一句话说：“水荒猛于虎。”我国有三百个城市缺水，有四十多个城市严重缺水。我调查到全国城市每天总缺水而二千吨，每年缺水六十多吨。你看到以上的资料可能会震惊。但是我们的一部分同学还是不会节约水资源。有一次，我看到几个同学用手按着水龙头口，去泼射其他的同学。这样不但弄湿别人，还浪费水资源，多不好呀！我国有1亿个儿童，如果平均每个儿童浪费500克水，就等于浪费了50万吨水。不仅人类浪费，还有人造污染。有一些工厂为了赚钱不安装污水过滤器，污水中的化学物没有经过过滤就直接流入河流当中。如果有人喝了那些污水就有可能会中毒。

　　说完水改说纸张吧。我发现大家都会浪费纸张，大家可能不知道。在学校里，有的同学的计算纸这面没有用完还有很多就转过另外一面，一直这样用到最后一面也用完了就不要了。还有的同学把作业本，计算纸撕下来折飞机来玩。在家里，爸爸妈妈打资料因为没有墨水了，打出来的字模模糊糊的就把这张纸扔了。在报社，每天不知道要印多少份报纸。书上说报社制造一吨新闻纸需要3。1立方米的木材，相当于砍掉17棵树。以上行为多浪费啊！

　　说到树木就接着讲森林资源吧。说起东北大家可能会想到郁郁葱葱的大森林，想到高高的大树和连绵不断的山峦。但是由于人类肆无忌惮的砍伐后，东北林区的森林严重的退化，导致生态环境问题日益突出：水土流失、江河断流、生物多样性丧失。1998年松花江、嫩江肆虐的洪水使人们初尝了恶果。森林是人类生存的摇篮。我国是一个人口众多的发展中大国，森林资源本来就先天不足，再加上现在森林破坏严重的问题，给我们这个森林资源本来就不富有的国家带来雪上加霜的灾难。还有一个海洋资源。我想大家都一定吃过海鲜，但由于人类过度的对海洋资源开发利用，影响了海洋里的动植物正常生长。如鱼类，有资料指出如果人类再继续这样大量捕抓鱼类几十年后可能就不会再有海鲜这种东西了。还有矿产资源，人类过度挖掘矿产资源使现在矿产资源慢慢减少。因为矿产资源是要很久才能再生的，所以如果过度挖掘就会影响地底的物质再生。以上行为多不好啊！
